Car hire trip to Formentor

The Cap de Formentor is one of the most spectacular points on the island of Mallorca. Situated on the northernmost coastline of the island, Formentor is 384m above sea level, and is linked with the bays of Cala Figuera, Cala Murta and Cala Pi de la Posada.
Formentor is situated 10km north east of Puerto de Pollensa, 60km north-east of Palma and the international airport on mainly good roads. It is located halfway along the Formentor Peninsula, a spectacular promontory with sheer cliffs rising above the sea.

It is set alongside a small, sheltered, crescent-shaped bay with steep, pine-forested, rocky ground down to the sea edge. The Formentor Peninsula just 20km out into the Mediterranean and it offers visitors breathtaking views. A place of great natural beauty, Formentor is home to sea cliffs and shorelines covered with pine trees which soar to incredible heights of over 200 metres. If you want to experience a different Mallorca, with beautiful landscapes, towering cliffs and spectacular scenery, Formentor comes highly recommended.
If you are travelling to Formentor from Magaluf or Palmanova via Puerto de Pollensa, visit early morning or evening to avoid summer traffic. It is well worth stopping at the Mirador de Colomer en route which offers stunning views of the peninsula. If you enjoy bird watching (the feathered variety) you can see the Illot de Colomer offshore here which is home to many nesting birds.

Stop off at the Cala de Pi de la Posada beach, where thick pine woods sweep majestically down to the sea. This is a great beach for diving, although it can get crowded in summer.
From the Cap de Formentor you can see Cala Figuera, which although inaccessible by road, can be reached on foot. Situated at the end of the peninsula is an old lighthouse which dates back to 1860. On clear days you can see Ciutadela, Menorca, from Cala Figuera, which is 40km away.

Things to do in Formentor

If you enjoy nature, and want to escape the crowds of Magaluf and Palmanova for a day, Formentor offers a wealth of things to see and do. There is no better place on Mallorca to go bird watching than Formentor, and this particular region is famous for its breeding colony of Eleonora´s Falcons, Rock Doves, Northern Ravens and Pallid Swifts which nest in the cliffs high above the ocean.

Dolphins can also be seen out at sea, and there are some great places to walk, swim and take in the local sights and sounds. If you are looking for somewhere luxurious to stay, check out the historic Hotel Formentor in Pi de la Posada which was built in 1926, and which boasts Winston Churchill and Charlie Chaplin among its most famous guests. The restaurants and bars are open to non-residents if you fancy a quick visit. Formentor is approximately 90km from Magaluf and Palmanova.
