Trip to La Calobra

A day trip to La Calobra Mallorca
Situated 43 miles away from Magaluf and Palmanova on the northwest coast of Mallorca, La Calobra is a beautiful cove which can be reached by a winding road which descends over 2,000 feet in just 7 miles. You can either reach La Calobra by hire car, taxi or public transport, but one of the most relaxing ways to arrive is probably by boat from Port de Soller. La Calobra is just a short walk away from Torrent de Parreis, which can be reached by walking through a tunnel which leads to a dramatic canyon and a small beach. The port of La Calobra offers visitors breathtaking scenery in a quiet and tranquil environment which feels a million miles away from the busy resorts of Magaluf, Palmanova and El Arenal.
If you are planning to spend a day or two in La Calobra, take your time to explore the streets, and relax in one of the small, well-priced cafés which are dotted around the port. La Calobra is an area of outstanding natural beauty, and the nearby rock formations and grand pinnacles of the Torrent de Pareis attract visitors from all over Europe. This incredible gorge has 1,000 ft high walls, and is also known as the Grand Canyon of Mallorca. If you decide to travel by road to La Calobra, you will have to drive along the legendary ´Snake´ road which descends through wild, rugged scenery with numerous sharp bends and turns.
This is not a trip for the faint-hearted and if you are afraid of heights you might look at other means of transport to reach the region. Close to the top of the road you will reach the Nus de la Corbeta, which is a tight turn through an angle of 270 degrees which sees the road pass under itself. La Calobra can be easily reached in a hire car from Magaluf and Palmanova, and this small village is situated on a picturesque bay which is hemmed in by high cliffs. La Calobra has a pebble beach, and a few bars and restaurants which cater to locals and tourists alike.
If you want to travel off the beaten track in Mallorca, and explore the rural areas of the island, take your time to explore Es Trenc, La Calobra and Formentor. Discover the natural beauty of Mallorca, and take the time to relax and top up your tan before returning to the lively night life, bars, clubs and restaurants of Magaluf and Palmanova.
