DJ Equipment

The Dj at Work
Every man needs his tools so does the Professional DJ that performs night after night.
In the past all the DJ needed was his bag of vinyl’s, a set of headphones and if needed for the occasion a microphone would be added to his already heavy luggage.
The bar or club where the DJ is booked supplies the decks and other installations needed to make up the complete system. Even though it is still one of the better choices vinyl is not always very convenient especially while traveling from one place to another frequently. It does limit the DJ with the amount of records he can transport or store at the location where he is performing his session. Vinyl has that feeling to it that Cd’s or computer stored music files cannot even get close too. Even the sound of a proper pressed record can hardly be equaled while played on a well tuned set of turntables more common know as decks. You ask any true DJ and the majority will tell you that vinyl is still in and widely used.
Decks and Vinyl
When it comes to the decks, there comes only one name to the mind and that is Technics.
Market leader since the 1970s with one of the best turntables ever made to get the job done well. The Technics SL-1200 was first on the market now long followed up by the latest model the Technics SL-1200MK6 and SL-1200MK6K1, even though you can still find some of these earlier models from the seventies still in action. According to the DJ that truly loves his vinyl, there is no better! As always there are more brands out there that offer some good gear and results such as Vestax, Gemini and Stanton that also should be looked at before making a final decision if you are planning on a new set of decks. The technology has come a long way since.
Even though you see the real true decks and vinyl slowly disappearing, you will mostly find it to be for more practical reasons than any other. With the introduction of the CD decks, it was for many an easy step to take as it was convenient for the DJ to carry just a pack of Cd’s rather than the heavy load of the large back fully packed with vinyls. And for the bar or club in question it became an easier format as it did just not restrict them to vinyl DJs. The CD decks are a little more versatile and when set up right it gives the DJ all the options to use any type off effect requested, especially with some brands offering vinyl emulation that lets you the DJ have full manual control this has for many made it the easy way to go.
With many various companies in the music industry today manufacturing complete sets including the two decks, mixer, headphones and some even throw in a microphone, with starting prices as low as from around 250 euro’s to top of the range well over 3 thousand euro’s, Pioneer seems to be right at the top with their CDJ-1000 MK3 with added MP3 option not available on the predecessor the CDJ-1000 MK2 and their next generation flagship the Pioneer DVJ-1000 that not only handles sound but video visuals too. Have a look at the full range of other brands such as Denon, Numark and Technics that offer great products with similar functions.
Professional DJ Headphones
Besides from his or her personal music collection, the DJ is also in possession of a set of good headphones. This is a choice that is up to the DJ to either purchase a full stereo set or just a single ear piece. We would suggest testing it on sound quality and how it handles ambient sound exclusion before looks, as these two factors will be important during work in a loud environment. There is a very large selection brought to you by the same manufactures of most other DJ equipment such as Technics, Sony, and Pioneer but do take a look at the extensive range of some other brands like Sennheiser with the HD25, Skullcandy’s top model the SK Pro and Allen & Heath with the Xone XD-53, all very well engineered to perfection and with great finishing.
For the DJs in Magalluf and Palma Nova all the equipment is normally already installed in the bars and clubs and they would only need to bring their music and other small gear, and if they by any chance need to replace any piece of their equipment while out here in Mallorca then Palma town offers a few good shops to either replace or upgrade any of their DJ equipment.
