The Workers Area

This is the page where you can find out about what's out there for the Workers in Magalluf and Palma Nova. We bring you news from the past and present and share some of the best moments.

For more info on jobs just check our jobs page.

Being a worker in Magalluf seems to be the life for many, it is maybe for this reason that so many of them keep returning year after year.
Some just come back for short breaks and work par time, others chose to settle here and have become residents and have got their lives so called sorted.

If you have had the opportunity to work here before, you too might have been bitten by the Magalluf bug that will slowly turn you into one of the Usual Suspects.

If you are planning to come down on your own for the first time and need some more specific information then use our Message Board where you will meet many fans of the Holiday resorts Magalluf and Palma Nova both located in the south part of Majorca.

Once you have signed up for free you can ask all your questions and find out how others have survived their first year. You can also read the article on 'wannabe' workers by clicking the link below.

New for the Workers 2008
The Shagalluf Beach Crew
The Shagalluf Beach crew is a new concept for the workers this year and is exclusive to the workers of the resorts of Magalluf and Palma Nova.

Make sure to be part of this if you are going to be working in and around Magalluf as it will have its benefits through out your stay and it will be fun meeting new friends instantly especially if you have come out on your own.
The Shagalluf Beach Crew has in the planning this year various excursions to different locations on the Island of Majorca. These trips will take you to some of the main attractions on the Island with one aim, to have fun and to take you away from the daily stress and work atmosphere.

The excursions planned do not only include the, "oh so" famous workers boat parties (*take note: boat parties not yet confirmed for 2008) but also little trips around the Island where you might visit the local Vine Yards in Binissalem or the newly build Sea Aquarium in El Arenal. We might even be entering the battlefield with a game of Paintball for those who take a fancy to run around as a madman shooting people with colored paint pellets.

Of course it's not all just about excursions and sight seeing, that will make you want to be a Shagalluf Beach Crew Member. It is the fun and being instantly part of a large group of people that are all in the same position as you. During the week the Shagalluf Beach Crew has their so called 'Meet Ups' either on the Magalluf Beach or a nice terrace with a view somewhere in and around the resorts of Magalluf and Palma Nova, where they will just have a laugh, chill and tell their funny stories and exchange their own experiences.

There are also the Shagalluf Beach Crew Parties that are mostly held just after when everybody has finished their long working days. These parties are held mostly in the local bars and clubs where of course you as a member will enjoy some extra benefits.

For more info on how to become a Shagalluf Beach Crew Member, Bookmark this page as more details will come very soon.

Live On the Barstool with…….!
On the Barstool with………Mike Chaplin's
A brand new feature from Shagalluf ®

Monthly interviews are held throughout the year in Magalluf.
(This interview is conducted by Shaggie.)

1. Welcome Mike, how does it feel? Sitting here, as the first one being interviewed for our new section on the workers page of Shagalluf.com, On the Barstool With.

Mike: I think its great, the first person to be interviewed for a brand new page, it's always good to chat to you Shaggie.
2. How long is it you have been in Majorca and do you see yourself staying for a while?

Mike: I have been here since 2001.i will spend the rest of my life here in Mallorca, it's a lovely place. Hopefully ill not be on the hill for too much longer
3. We know you work at Chaplin's and have been there for a while, how did that start, what is Chaplin's to you?

Mike: I needed a job when I got here, Chaplin's needed a DJ. To me Chaplin's is my life while I am here in Magalluf. All the staff is great and the owner is an ok person
4. So you are a true worker, resident and tax payer in Mallorca, how do you see the summer of 2008 in general, will it be a good summer, or do you think that we are in for a bit of dip. Is Majorca going to have a good year?

Mike: I have seen the tourist's numbers decline since 2002; I think it's about time it changed. I am looking forward to 2008 , with all the new rules in Calvia it should be a interesting year.
5. Now that we are on the subject, the new law that's been put into practice by the town council of Calvia on the first of January this year. No more Prs! what's your view, I mean you know it does mean around 400 workers less in the resorts of Magalluf and Palma Nova not spending their earned money and renting accommodation locally. Pro's and Con's Mike you know what I mean?

Mike: The tourists can now walk freely around Magalluf with out being pestered by Prs. (a good thing). For the local economy I think it's a bad thing, many of the smaller bars and restaurants rely on workers as well as the hundreds of apartments that must be rented out. (Maybe the apartment owners can stop putting 10 people in a 2 bedroom apartment now)
6. As you have been in Magalluf and Palma Nova for a while, do you feel there is anything missing for the visiting tourists, what would you add to improve more all year round tourism?

Mike: Yes, I need to save about 2 million euros to build a theme park, it's just what Magalluf needs, as well as some of the hotels and shops staying open out of season. I would like to see Calvia council giving shop, bar and restaurant owners a cash incentive to stay open in winter.
7. Of course these questions lead to the end of the politics with the last one for Mike as I can see him slowly starting to change colour, only joking! Mike do you think the business owners of the bars and clubs, restaurants and shops need to work more together in helping the resorts or is the responsibility some where else?

Mike: If all the bars and shops stayed open all year I think that the tourists would slowly come back.(this could take years, there is no quick solution) also the tour operators need to start bringing people here in the winter and stop taking there cash from the summer season and running away for the winter. INVESTMENT is the name of the game not making a quick profit in the summer.
8. Music, that what you do Mike is it not, Managing Chaplin's, Dj on several nights of the week, looking out for the staff and take some work load of the actual owners back. Do you still have ambition to own your own bar or club here in Magalluf?

Mike: No, been there done that and lost a fortune.
9. After all these years working here, what makes you go back to the Chaplin's? Has this got anything to do with the famous party pub games held in the bar?

Mike: I love the party games, I started doing them in 2002 and the tourist's queue up to join in and have there 2 minutes of fame. I go back to Chaplin's every year because I love the place and the money that I get paid for doing my job.
10. Mike it is pleasure having you here as our first guest, On the Barstool With!

I am sure we see each other more this summer, but for now we wish you and the management and staff at Chaplin's a good summer season.

Your last question is? Who would you like to see next on the Barstool With?

Mike: DJ Gotti. (BCM) he is an interesting young lad.
Thanks to Mikey, Dj and Manager at Chaplin's Bar Magaluf

See you all soon with a new On the Barstool with……… DJ Gotti!

Workers Boat Parties by Escape
The famous boat parties organized by Escape (Rock and Roll Scot and Dj Cannus) have always gone down well by the workers. The boat with a capacity of around 200 people leaves from the Magalluf Beach and takes you out on the Mediterranean with plenty of entertainment packed on board. Tunes from past and present are brought to you by the local resident DJs and some special guest appearances from international top Djs. With the music pumping out in volume and the summer being at its best you can have a truly good time for approximate three and a half hours.
Drinks can not be taken aboard as they will expect you to use the bar onboard but there is always the chance for a free Vodka Orange Punch or if you are fast enough get hold of one these bottles of Sambuca that is freely passed around by the good old organization. The boat will have a few stops if the weather permits so you get a chance to have a swim or snorkel in the ocean and cool down from all that dancing and partying on the boat.

These parties are there for you to let it all out and enjoy. It also is a great opportunity to meet fellow workers and to make new friends. We will inform you closer to date with more info when the Boat parties of 2008 will take place. Don't miss out this time!

4th of July at Daquiri Palace
The American Independence Day Celebrations in Magalluf

Do not miss out on this one.....every year on the 4th of July it is party time at Daiquiri Palace, the open air bar on the Magalluf beach front famous for its frozen cocktails and best waitresses.

Do take note that this party is not a true workers party and could not really be classed as such, even though the majority of the people that are present do work in and around Magalluf and Palma Nova others come traveling down from many other parts of the Island of Mallorca.
Some even fly over from where ever they are just for the celebrations of the American Independence Day always held on the 4th of July in any weather at Daiquiri Palace perfectly situated at the Magaluf beach front.

This is one of these events where you can meet most of the Magalluf workers, as not many want to give this one a miss because it is just a cool day with the right atmosphere and some great singers live on stage, with perfect Daiquiri's served by the Daiquiri Palace Waitresses.

Held on the Magalluf beach front during the day starting around 12, as the party slowly starts evolving it soon gets busier and the party will be in full swing by around four in the afternoon.

Live entertainment is provided with some great performances from Magaluf's finest resident artists and special invited guests from all over the globe. They know the crowd, they sing their songs.

It does not take long before the people are fully concentrated on the party will be singing and dancing along as this is the day to just enjoy and kick back.

Over all a great day with top entertainment and plenty of beverages to keep you cool served by the famous Daiquiri Palace girls!

Plenty of snacks either in the form of pizza is served or you can try and order something straight of the barbeque such as beef burgers or sausages.

Make sure not to miss it next time!

The Workers Oscars Ceremony
For the past three years these Oscars celebrations have been a great afternoon of entertainment once again organized by Scott and Javi (Dj Cannus) with the aim of putting you as a worker in the limelight.

The nominations vary from being the barman of the year to best female bottoms but the one that always gets everybody in stitches is the funniest story of the year as they have to reflect a true event of the past few months in and around Magalluf. We leave it to your imagination of what that could be.
The day itself takes a lot of organizing and planning but thanks to many volunteers that are always happy to help out it is an event not too miss out on. There is plenty of fun entertainment brought to you by the workers and professionals during the ceremony live on and off stage. Up till now there is always been a different dress code each year that most seem to obey, showing some hilarious outfits and great designs. Of course plenty of refreshments are available with special discount workers prices at the Bar but free Champagne is on your table that has been reserved for your group and friends.

Football Tournaments in Magalluf
Among the locals and workers there seems to be a great affection towards a game of football during their spare time, either in the weekend or even during the week. Lucky for them Magalluf offers a fantastic sport complex including a massive gym, outdoor tennis and indoor squash courts and most important the real size football pitch laid with artificial grass.

The workers and locals organize training sessions and form their own teams. They arrange proper full time matches against local teams or even semi pro football teams from abroad that are visiting the Island of Mallorca during the summer months.
If you fancy to join then just come on down to the sports center in Magalluf or ask the workers they most likely will point you to the right person.

Torneo Latino Americano de Futbol

For the last three years the local council of Calvia has organized in association with Casa de Mar del Plata en Baleares (the local Argentinean community) a three week during tournament with the winners winning a trip to Argentina. The competition is played by teams representing 12 different countries including Spain, England, and Columbia and of course the 'hosts' Argentina.
The England team formed out of the locals and workers of Magalluf won this Tournament in 2006 and had a complete paid trip to Argentina where they took part in another tournament held in one of the original World Cup grounds of 1978 in front of 44.000 people. A great achievement for a team that only plays once in a while during their busy life in Magalluf some even came straight from work to join in. During the matches the stands are filled up with many locals coming down to cheer on their teams creating a fun sporting event with lots of noise and plenty of flags and banners.
